Recruiting, Sourcing & Hiring with Twitter

A couple weeks ago, I outlined 5 new ways to search and recruit on Twitter sharing some of their recent changes to their platform because Twitter is offering some new short cuts to their platform when it involves search and sourcing for a potential employee. Keep in mind that if you are recruiting at an event like SXSW which kicks off later this week, Twitter is a wonderful way to source new candidates and connect with them on the fly. No pun intended.

Twitter now offers a robust set of short cuts for hiring, recruiting, and sourcing using the 140 character platform which can easily be done from your mobile phone. Many of these short cuts are intuitive and easy to use. The key is knowing what works and what doesn’t work when it comes to using Twitter. Twitter has outlined some examples here, but I take things a step further offering specific insights and examples in the inforgraphic below in how to search and source for job seekers using Twitter’s new search features online.

Social Media Recruiting at the 2013 SXSW Interactive Media Conference

One of the benefits to using Twitter at the 2013 SXSW Interactive Media Conference outside of the obvious benefit of a large percentage of the conference attendees being on Twitter, is the use of secondary Twitter hash tags for specific and targeted sessions.  Even if you are not attending the conference you can engage, research and learn about session attendees that you might want to target for specific positions by the SXSW sessions and secondary hash tags they use. Job seekers are also actively using Twitter hash tags and in larger numbers than ever before to reach employers too. In fact, here are 48 common Twitter hash tags for job seekers.

Twitter calls these searching and recruiting shortcuts described above as “search operators” as they make our searching job easier. Think of them as the boolean search of Twitter without the boolean altogether. What’s your favorite Twitter tool or tip for recruiting, searching and sourcing? Leave a comment below as I’d love to hear your insights on how you are using Twitter to find employees.

  1. Thanks Jessica! I had done a lot of talent sourcing on Twitter in the past with minimal results. I’ve always felt it’s a medium that could be more, but isn’t. I’m going to go in and use these new tips and see what results I can find.

    1. Hi Daoug,

I love Twitter and have had great results from it but it has taken time and a lot of work to build my network. The benefit of using Twitter Search is that you don’t have to rely on your Twitter network to share your job or drive traffic and the potential job seekers are sharing the information in real time and often before the update their blogs or LinkedIn profiles.

      Thanks for the comment.

      JMM
