My Book (Tweet This!) Has Arrived

by Jessica Miller-Merrell on January 12, 2010

While I was out on maternity leave, I got a lot of calls from friends, peers, and business people who had questions about social

media, specifically Twitter.  While I was relatively new to Twitter I had plenty of time on my hands while on maternity leave from my corporate job and I quickly became a self-confessed Twitterholic.  I realized that there wasn’t many solid resource available to new users in the form of a training manual or class, and Tweet This!  Twitter for Business was born.

The now book was actually first developed as a manual and I set out to teach classes and advice small businesses, consultants, and entrepreneurs on how to use Twitter to increase website traffic, develop sales leads, and bypass the gatekeeper while developing relationships with influencers.  Classes were good and some projects that I collaborated on created quite the buzz.  I was excited to be part of such a fantastic social media community.

But of course it wasn’t enough.  I like a challenge.  I’m a Type A personality.  I live by the mantra go big or go home.  I met with a handful of publishers, and my manual quickly became a book.  It felt strange being a soon to be author, but hey I’ve never been one to be normal.  And then my dreams of a book became a reality.

I left my corporate job as in Human Resources and set out to build my own consulting company late in 2009 while working on developing a marketing strategy using my own personal, professional, and social media connections to help me promote my book. The fun has really just begun.  Since I didn’t reveal my outside activities and dreams with many people at the office, they were quite perplexed.  Why would anyone leave their job in this economy?  Ignorant brillance or genuis I guess. These are what I call calculated risks.  I didn’t know it at the time but over the past four years, I have been planning for this.

So yesterday, it happened.  The day I had been working towards for all of my professional life since I first logged into the ICQ chat room over 10 years ago and sent my first text message to recruit a candidate or prospective employee, my book arrived.  And just like all other important both good and bad events in my life since I first logged into Twitter (my water breaking, my daughter being born, my father-in-law dying), I tweeted my book’s arrival.

The book is called Tweet This!  Twitter for Business. As part of the book’s pre-launch I am hosting a series of free seminars.  The first one is scheduled for January 19th that discusses “5 Ways Twitter Can Grow Your Business.”  Until my new website goes up later next week, you can visit this site to either register for the teleseminar and also order a copy of the e-book or soft cover version as well.  Since I’m self-published and working on a shoestring budget, I’m working hard to find creative ways to capture a new and different audience outside of social media and this is where I need your help.  If you are a blogger, media person, or just someone who is someone and is interested in being part of the most important decision of my life (outside of my daughter), give me a call.  I’d love to hear from you.

And thanks for your support.  I have no doubt its going to be a wild ride.

Hi Jessica,

I am intrigued by this book and the relevancy to my industry (talent communications) and volunteer job (HR Florida – 2010 Conference chair).

In my paying job, it is always a challenge to have clients embrace social media, and while we are huge believers, i.e. Shannon Seery Gude and the like, often times it takes some time to engage our clients. I am hoping this will be another weapon in our fight to convince the masses!

In my volunteer job with HR Florida, we are always looking for books that educate, entertain and send a relevant message to HR about the importance of social media, i.e. Stephen Harrison and Mike VanderVort, both of which are on my conference planning team this year.

I would be interested speaking to you further about “Tweet This” and see how we could make this a win win for all!

Congrats Again!

@Carol,

Thanks so much for the comment. My hope is that the book provides very solid content in an easy to read format and over 40 case studies through a variety of industries. Initial reaction from my test group has been very positive.
