HR Practitioner Spotlight: Kathleen Mangiafico
Tell us about yourself
I view myself as someone who has a deep love for humanity. I am extremely diverse and inclusive and am drawn to people that are very different than me. At the same time, I am also a person that hates to lose at life! I am a very driven, goal-orientated person and believe that this is a necessary attitude for the human spirit to grow and be successful! That’s why I love my profession – I help people find that power that is dormant within them…and show them how to apply it to developing their professional self!
Why HR? What made you pick this field?
I didn’t grow up thinking, “I can’t wait to work in the world of relationships!” In fact, like every generation, it’s your cultural roots and generational norms that will dictate who you’re “supposed” to be when you grow up! In high school, I told my mother I wanted to be a hairdresser. She told me I was going to college. I grew up in the 80’s where it was all about money. So I went off to college and got a degree in Accounting. …And as life unfolded, my true self came alive. After a 2 year miserable stint in accounting, I spent the first part of my professional life in Sales and Marketing. As life unfolded some more, I am right where I am supposed to be!
What inspired you to first start writing your blog?
I care about people immensely. As I was experiencing life and figuring out how to “succeed” in life, I wanted to share my “2 cents” recipe with others. I want everyone to win in life!
What is my favorite social media channel?
LinkedIn. I’m all about sharing information that will rebuild our country and guide us through this economic change!
What is happening in HR that has you most excited?
Change happens two degrees at a time. I really am impressed how HR departments are trying to bridge the gap between generations. They are creating a space where employees/management are understanding that learning, wisdom and reaching company goals is not effective from a top down “Rank and Privilege” approach. Success is achieved when experience is leveraged and shared from a horizontal approach!
One word, what does the future of HR hold?
The true definition of – RESPECT
